All of our icons are original works painted by iconographers in Russia during the 18th,
19th and early 20th century.
They are a unique style of painting and adorn many
of the churches and homes in Russia and throughout the world. Their beauty and
spiritual impact has been significant for our customers. Each icon is specially
prepared and they are hand painted by iconographers who have been
trained and spiritually educated in their craft for many years. They paint
according to the styles of the different schools
of icons that have developed over the last 1000 years
in Russia.
We have imported the icons
directly from Russia and the Ukraine over the past 15 years, and we carry a wide
variety of themes and sizes. The icons we select are chosen from the best
available pieces and most are painted on wooden panels. Many contain elaborate
metal covers (called “oklads” or “risas”) and frames (kiots) which were popular
during the 18th and 19th century. We also offer brass
crosses, crucifixes, plaques, and triptychs from the period that are commonly
displayed and worn in Orthodox ceremonies and adorn the homes in Russia and the
Ukraine.
